TRILOGY: Future Internet Technology

Description

TRILOGY is a multidisciplinary basic research project oriented towards three specific thematic areas: Optical Networks, Audiovisual P2P Services and Sensor Networks. These three areas aim to study, in a complementary way, from the physical layers to the service layers of the future or new generation Internet.

The aim of the TRILOGY project is to open new lines of research to make possible the evolution of the i2CAT Foundation’s live streaming systems towards more standard, efficient and functional systems, prepared for HD and 3D transmission systems.

To carry out the study, the CoolRuc platform is used, which is the result of previous projects and which has allowed inLab to lead the integration of the P2P Live Streaming system. CoolRuc facilitates the research and integration of new modules that improve live streaming systems.

The TRILOGY project involved 7 research groups from 3 different universities:

  • Optical Communications Group (OCG) of the UPC.
  • BAMPLA Optical Networks Group (GXO-BAMPLA).
  • Grup of Network Technologies and Strategies (NeTS) of the UPF.
  • Grup of Tecnologies Audiovisuals i Multimèdia (TAM) of the URL.
  • The Computing Laboratory of the Faculty of Informatics of Barcelona (inLab) at the UPC, in collaboration with the research group, Laboratory of Modeling and Analysis of Information (LIAM).
  • Grup Media de BAMPLA (MEDIAENTEL-BAMPLA) of the UPC.
  • Grup of Xarxes Sense Fils (XSF) of the UPC.
