Document printing service in self-service mode

Description

This service allows papers sent to the printer to be printed at the moment the student is in front of it.

This self-service system works by means of a student ID card, a proximity sensor and achieves 100% of collected printouts and a reduction of unnecessary paper consumption.

FIB students have a monthly printing fee to facilitate their academic tasks. Before the implementation of this project, when students sent a document to be printed, they had to wait for the print output, which was every half hour, and for this reason a high percentage of people forgot to pick up their printouts. With self-service printing, students can print a document and pick it up instantly, making this task more convenient for the student, preventing them from forgetting the printouts and reducing unnecessary paper consumption.

Each self-service printing point consists of a touch-screen computer and a printer. When a student sends a document to print from any faculty computer, it is held in the print queue. From a self-service terminal, the student identifies himself with his student card using the RFID reader. If the identification is correct, he is shown the documents he has sent and can select the documents he wants to print. Finally, it gives the print command. The documents are printed instantly by the printer at the self-service point.
