CityWalking

Description

CityWalking allows the City Council of Terrassa to promote sport among its inhabitants, aware of the increasingly sedentary life of these and the increase that this entails to suffer from diseases. CityWalking encourages citizens to walk around their city, discover it and stay fit at the same time, through the use of a web application and a mobile application.
The tool proposes different routes around the city and allows the user to choose according to parameters such as distance, time available, etc. It also monitors the user while walking, thanks to technologies currently available in cell phones such as GPS and accelerometer, and will display geographic information and views of the city, as well as details of commerce and resources that can be discovered during walks.
In addition, the system allows storing ride information in the cloud, which can be consulted later through the web or shared with other people (friends, relatives, family). This information is made available to health specialists so that they can propose new personalized plans based on the individual’s age, sex, time, etc., adjusting their objectives.
Health professionals, municipalities, community centers and people at risk of disease, aided by technology, work together to improve the quality of life of citizens.
This project is carried out in collaboration with the Terrassa City Council, Mutua de Terrassa and the Terrassa Health Consortium.
The project was the winner, out of a total of 137 proposals, during the Living Labs Global Award 2012 competition.
