PRISMA: UPC’s academic management system

Description

PRISMA is an information system for the management of studies for the entire UPC, which began to be developed at inLab FIB in 2001. Throughout 2001, the UPC was working on a definition of the organizational and functional model for the management of its studies. The construction of the information system derived from this study was commissioned to inLab FIB.

PRISMA was and continues to be sufficiently flexible and adaptable to the needs of the various UPC agents involved in the processes, as well as in the requirements derived from, for example, the adaptation of UPC studies to the European Higher Education Area.

The project involved requirements analysis, design and development of all the software, architecture design and selection of the operating environment, implementation in the operating environment and corrective and evolutionary maintenance. Quality control systems have been implemented throughout the project, as well as continuous safety checks of the entire environment.

At the end of 2005, a separate unit was created within the UPC to continue the maintenance and evolution of this project. As of today, the PRISMA Unit is a unit of the Teaching Area that supports the management of UPC studies, through the development of information systems, and provides attention and training to its users.
