inLab FIB signs a technological innovation agreement with the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police)

Yesterday 12 september 2023, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) and Mossos d’Esquadra signed an agreement, in which inLab FIB will develop technological innovation projects along with Catalonia police for the next four years.

We will work in fields related with our areas of expertise: data science and big data, smart mobility via advanced data treatment for vehicle fleets and traffic management, air quality prediction and analysis and improvement of intermodals and transport processes. We will also apply our experience in knowledge and service engineering in Internet of Things and information systems fields, as well as in cybersecurity (computer security optimization and wire fraud detection in institutions) and modelling, simulation and optimitzation applied to transport, manufacturing, logistics, and industrial processes (digital twins) and emergency systems

Here at inLab FIB, innovation and training are the fundamental basis of progress and transfer of knowledge obtained at University. Because of this, our work focuses on innovating and transfering knowledge to society in the field of ICT, via human talent growth and developing R+D+I multidisciplinar projects.

One of our differientating traits is active participation of FIB students in development of innovation, along with faculty and specialised technical staff, with the Talent academic program.
The signing ceremony of this agreement counted with the presence of the Rector of UPC, Daniel Crespo; Conseller d’Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena; the manager director of Mossos d’Esquadra (General Directorate of Policy), Pere Ferrer, as well as the dean of FIB, Josep Fernández Ruzafa; the director of inLab FIB, Ernest Teniente, and his Associate Director, Maria Ribera Sancho; among others.

Once the signing ceremony ended, the attendees visited our facilities and could know first-hand some of the projects taking place at inLab FIB and what our work environment is.

In conclusion, this agreement represents an ambitious challenge for us, that we face with a lot of excitement and responsibility. We hope that it can become the beginning of a productive relationship between both entities!
