Analysis of the energy consumption of the tramway

Description

Project requested by Siemens in which a tool is required to indirectly measure the energy consumption of a Trambaix tram. The study has made it possible to measure total consumption and to test the factors that increase energy use. For example, we can calculate the savings that would be obtained in the absence of traffic light stops, one of the most consuming factors.

To achieve this objective, the position and speed of the tramway was recorded every second for a month. This information is fed into the inLab-designed machine to generate a mathematical model of energy consumption, which obtains the total consumption of the tramway on each of its routes from the start stop to the final stop on the route.
