During the Inauguration Act of the Academic Year 2021-2022, the teacher Ernest Teniente,InLab FIB director, an the professor Maria Ribera Sancho, Associated director of inLab FIB, collected the 24th Premi UPC a la Qualitat en la Docència Universitària that was awarded in May by Consell Social to Talent program of inLab FIB, in the Teaching Initiative modality. The event was held on October 4 of this year in the auditorium of the Vèrtex building and the prize was presented by the Honorable Minister of Research and Universities, Mrs. Gemma Geis, the Magnificent Rector of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Mr. Daniel Crespo, and the President of Consell Social of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Mr. Ramon Carbonell.
The jury of Consell Social that awarded the prize highlighted that the Talent program “is a complementary program to studies, aimed at students of FIB and open to other UPC students, to facilitate comprehensive learning, by incorporating the student into a tutored professional work environment”. He also remarked that “the program combines the performance of academic tutors, professionals and for participating students. The link within the studies is concretized mainly through the bachelor’s degree final project, the master’s thesis or the doctoral thesis”.
Since its creation, the mission of the Talent program has been to provide comprehensive training for students participating in the program, complementing that obtained with regular monitoring of studies. This comprehensive training is not only based on technical aspects, but also aims to improve more personal aspects of students such as decision-making, solidarity, entrepreneurship, creativity or teamwork. Apart from their participation in projects, students achieve this training through courses and seminars that are realized periodically.
It is important to highlight that this award couldn’t be possible without the work led by the teacher Josep Casanovas, Director of inLab FIB for many years almost from its beginnings until September 2020, carried out by a large teaching team from various departments (Statistics and Operations Research, Service Engineering and Information Systems; Automatic Control and Industrial Informatics and Computer Architecture) with the fundamental participation of a team of professionals from the administration and services staff of the Barcelona School of Informatics. The award would not have been possible without each and every one of the students who have passed through the Talent program throughout their academic career. This award is an honor for each and every one of you who have been part, are and will be part of this project.
