The “Traffic Simulation Lifetime Achievement Award” recognises an extended series of scientific and/or professional contributions over the course of at least 20 years.
Jaume Barceló was honoured based on his contributions to the development of microscopic traffic simulation. During the official ceremony, the chairman of the Transport Research Group TRB Committee explicitly mentioned Barceló’s contributions to the development and dissemination of microscopic simulation and his active role in the community organising workshops and seminars on traffic modelling and simulation.
The prize is awarded by the Joint Traffic Simulation Subcommittee, which was founded in 2005; the first prize was awarded in 2007. Therefore, the award is well-known within the TRB community. Most people who are members of the academic and professional community in the field of traffic simulation and related topics are aware of the prize and its significance.
