inLab FIB has collaborated with SEAT in the development of the Parkfinder App prototype.
This prototype is a mobile application that integrates with the SEAT vehicles infotainment system using the mirrorLink protocol. It allows locating parking spots using information facilitated by the iCity European Project Platform through a standard API developed for several cities.
The user will be able to get real time information about the availability of different types of parking spots (as for example: loading/unloading, green area, blue area ...), which can be filtered and ordered according to his or her interests. Once the user has selected the destination, the prototype communicates with the navigation system of the car to get real time information of the estimated time of arrival and the distance to the selected zone.
To be able to certify the safety of its use while driving, it has been necessary to develop a user interface compliant with the in-vehicle "Driver Distraction Guidelines".
The prototype has been successfully tested in the Barcelona neighbourhood of “Les Corts”, and was recently presented in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2015 as a use case example of the iCity Project.
For inLab FIB UPC this project has been an excellent opportunity to innovate and to develop new talent around the connected car concept. We expect that the prototype will evolve towards a commercial application available for SEAT customers.
This collaboration is added to the long history of collaboration through the SEAT-UPC Chair in Automotive Excellence and Innovation for Sustainable Mobility.
