The proposed research project is framed in the area of the Internet of Things, and also in the area of Smart Cities and all the smart elements around it. A Smart City is an urban area that uses different types of electronic Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to collect data and then use insights gained from that data to manage assets, resources, and services efficiently.

The objective of the research is to cover the end-to-end lifecycle of what a single reading of a sensor can be. Thus, to gather, monitor and to be able to act with these IoT sensors and with the data that they are reporting to the system.
Part of the work within this research will be to find a way to generalize the data input format from the sensors to the system, adding semantics and ontologies to it. To provide it with a common data input format for the entire IoT ecosystem.
In addition, this system will be developed by researching in microservices architecture. A microservices architecture mainly contributes to a system in which each functionality is separated by different modules. And, in short, it means improved fault isolation, simplicity in understanding the system, technology flexibility, faster technical deployments, and more easily scalable.
