Jaume Figueras, guanyador del premi Living Labs Global Award 2012
Awarded:

Jaume Figueras, head of GIS projects at inLab FIB, with the collaboration of Toni Guasch, has won this year’s Living Labs Global Award for the city of Terrassa with his project CityWalking.

This proposal has been chosen for the city of Terrassa from a total of 137 proposals submitted.

This project encourages citizens to walk around their city, discover it and keep fit by using a website and a mobile application. CityWalking will allow the City Council of Terrassa to promote sport among its citizens, aware of the increasingly sedentary life of its citizens and the increased risk of suffering from diseases due to this fact.

CityWalking will solve the problem by encouraging the habit of walking among citizens. Walking an hour a day is ideal, but if you repeat the same route constantly, it ends up being very tiring. For this reason, a tool is being created that proposes different routes and allows the user to choose according to parameters such as distance, time available, etc.

CityWalking will monitor the user while walking, thanks to technologies currently available on mobile phones such as GPS and accelerometer, and will display geographic information and views of the city, as well as details of the shops and resources that can be discovered during their walks.

In addition, the system will allow storing information about the trips in the nuc, which can be consulted later through the web or shared with other people (friends, parents, family). This information will be made available to health specialists so that they can propose new personalized plans according to the age, sex, time, etc. of the patient and adjust their objectives.

Health professionals, municipalities, community centers and people at risk of disease, aided by technology, can work together to improve the quality of life of citizens.
