Simulation study of the card sorting process

Description

DistriCenter, an operator in charge of handling, storage and distribution of all types of products, contacted inLab to request a simulation tool to study a proposal for the design of a new semi-automated card sorting centre.

The simulation model imitates a system with the daily arrival of more than 130,000 documents from 5,000 different destinations, and classifies and groups them according to destination. One of the key aspects is to ensure that the sorting for each destination is completed within one hour in order to be able to link the process with the subsequent logistics of distribution.
