inLab FIB Introduces Itself to Barcelona’s AI and Data Community at a Microsoft Event

Last Tuesday, June 2, the inLab FIB (UPC) had the pleasure of actively participating in the inaugural edition of the Barcelona AI & Data Systems (BAD) Meetup, a high-level technical forum hosted by Microsoft. The event brought together professionals from academia, startups, and large corporations, with the clear ambition of establishing Barcelona as a leading international hub for the convergence of artificial intelligence and large-scale data systems.

The session focused on the architecture and evolution of AI-native data platforms, addressing challenges such as distributed processing, cloud infrastructures, and open data ecosystems. Ernest Teniente, director of inLab FIB, was one of the keynote speakers of the session, sharing the stage with Flavio Junqueira (CTO of Qbeast) and Carlo Curino (Research Director at Microsoft). During his talk, he highlighted inLab FIB’s vision for the development of intelligent platforms and the strategic importance of transferring academic research directly into real production environments.

The meeting concluded with a productive networking session that allowed participants to exchange impressions and strengthen connections among attendees. For inLab FIB, actively taking part in the launch of the BAD community represents a great opportunity to continue driving technological innovation alongside top-tier partners such as Microsoft and to remain at the forefront of the future of intelligent data systems.
