{"id":24880,"date":"2016-06-03T10:24:03","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T08:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inlab.fib.upc.edu\/projecte\/simulating-the-future-of-urban-mobility\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T09:20:39","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T08:20:39","slug":"simulating-the-future-of-urban-mobility","status":"publish","type":"projecte","link":"https:\/\/inlab.fib.upc.edu\/en\/projecte\/simulating-the-future-of-urban-mobility","title":{"rendered":"Simulating the future of urban mobility for CARNET"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1040,"featured_media":2085,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"experteses":[23],"tencnologies":[673,697],"class_list":["post-24880","projecte","type-projecte","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","experteses-smartmobility-en","tencnologies-big-data-en","tencnologies-simulador-aimsun-en"],"acf":{"minidescripcio":"Participate in an open hub of knowledge around mobility and automotive initiated by SEAT, Volkswagen Group Research and the UPC, simulating new concepts of urban mobility","ordre_prioritat":0,"descripcio":"inLab FIB participates in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnetbarcelona.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CARNET<\/a> initiative (Cooperative Automotive Research Network), an open hub of knowledge around mobility and automotive initiated by SEAT, Volkswagen Group Research and the UPC, simulating new concepts of urban mobility.\n\nSustainable mobility is not just a technological issue, the new automotive technologies and applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), combined with the new social paradigm shift that is beginning to replace vehicle ownership with the use of the vehicle, make it possible for any user to access mobility services that allow them to go from any origin to any destination at all times.\n\nIn order to simulate the urban mobility of the future, we use specialized traffic simulators at the macro, meso or microscopic level and models of the city of Barcelona to realistically emulate the new mobility concepts, reproducing the city's traffic dynamics.\n<p class=\"rtecenter\"><img class=\" size-full wp-image-2087\" style=\"width: 600px; height: 325px;\" src=\"https:\/\/inlab.fib.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/bcn-urban-testbed.jpg\" alt=\"Our Barcelona Urban Testbed\" width=\"600\" height=\"325\"><\/p>\nThis also allows us to measure the future impact of different levels of penetration of new concepts or vehicles. For example, in one of the projects, <strong>Connected Car,<\/strong> carried out with Volkswagen Research, 10,000 equipped vehicles were emulated, acting as mobile traffic sensors, which coexisted with the rest of the city's vehicles. The simulation allowed us to assess the quality of the information collected by this type of vehicle in order to estimate the state of the city's traffic, opening the door to future lines of research.\n\nIn another of the projects, <strong>Urban Co-Car<\/strong>, work has been done with a fleet of vehicles that allow dynamic sharing of journeys in order to absorb the 10% of journeys that are currently made by private vehicle. This project focuses on the analysis and evaluation of the impact of a shared vehicle system for multiple users, exploiting efficiently, flexibly and profitably the fact that their routes coincide completely or in some section.
