I love bits

Description

I love bits is a promoted project by the Barcelona School of Informatics in collaboration with inLab. Its goal is to catch the attention of the pre-college students and introduce them to the information technology studies.

Over the past few years, the number of informatics engineering students has decreased. In order to change this trend, I love bits project starts a campaign to emphasize the growing up importance of the information and communication technologies to the society, the multiple formative options of FIB double degrees through agreements with other universities from other countries, and the wide variety of job opportunities for IT engineers.

The project consists on:

  • The creation of I love bits website which explains the computer engineering degree and its characteristics such as the differences between the different degree specialties, many of the job opportunities of the future graduates or the constant innovation that characterizes the ICT-related studies and therefore computer engineering. On the webpage there is also available information about the college life and many experiences of students.
  • Another part of the project was the creation of the official Twitter account of the Barcelona School of Informatics under the name I love bits. Through this Twitter profile is possible to follow all the news, activities related with the school.
  • In addition to the Twitter profile and with the same goal, the Facebook page of the school was also created as the place to share links and content related to the FIB and the campaign.

With the intent to give more visibility to the campaign beyond the held conferences, the project also included a contest in which the students had to record a video explaining what means for them the lemma of the project: "computers are more", upload it to YouTube and achieve the maximum possible number of votes through the I love bits Facebook page . Thanks to the competition and the diffusion of this, the project got more visibility on the social networks. Finally also stamped shirts with the motto of the project: “I love bits”.

During the project SEO techniques were used to manage the webpage and also tools like Google Adwords and Google Analytics. Search Keyword why we sought prospective students, care for the format of the URL, get references des from other sites, advertising in Adwords are some of the issues with this project.
