Project requested by Siemens in calling for a tool to indirectly measure the energy consumption of a tram in Barcelona. The study measured the total consumption and performed tests to determine the factors that increase energy consumption. For example we can calculate the savings gained in the absence of traffic light stops, one of the factors that increase consumption.
In order to achieve this position and speed of the tram has been tracked every second for a month. This information is fed into the tool designed in the inLab to generate a mathematical model of energy consumption, which calculates the total consumption of the tram in each of its travels from the start to the end of line.
The study has measured the total rate savings that would result in no traffic light stops
